Camping Kickoff

We had our first summertime camping trip and it was GREAT! We went up in Pine Valley to Dean Martin Campground and it was amazing. We didn't know what to expect but it is one of our favorites!
The boys delight at getting to take the tent trailer was contagious.

I would seriously love to talk about all of the details, but I'm exhausted. Seriously, camping is not for the faint-hearted Mom. Its hard at night with Becks being so little and wanting to be sure he is warm and not letting him fuss since we are in a tent and others around us are sleeping...needless to say we didn't get a lot of sleep. Not to mention that I had to go potty all night but I will not go alone and so I hold it.

I do want to remember how much peace I felt there with my boys. Just a huge feeling of contentment and joy at being with my family. I love each of them so much and being out with them and watching them play and get dirty was so delightful. No distractions - just taking care of their most basic of needs in our simplified home away from home.

It was wonderful!

Camping with my grandparents in the tent trailer is one of my fondest memories. I like tents, but they just feel so temporary. Something about the tent trailer made me feel more secure and at home...but in the woods! I love the sound of nothing. It's not silent, but there's no electrical hum!

What a pretty place. I'd love some suggestions for good camping meals. We are going to start camping this summer and I'm blanking on what we used to eat while camping. Any suggestions you have would make a good post!

That looks like so much fun. ALthough I'm certainly not a camper. I've never been there, looks like I need to go there.

Lisa, don't you remember how we used to set up the potty chair right next to the fridge at night so you and I could go potty. Dad would get a paper sack and grab the potty bag, set the bag inside the paper bag and take it to the mens rest room to flush it down the toilet? That's what those little plastic bags are for under the bench!

My Aunt was able to buy a toilet seat lib that screws onto a 5gal bucket. They also sell special plastic bags for the buckets too. With your hampster bladder (and mine!) I would highly recommend these!

Lots of work but such great memories! I'm not a huge camping person, but I definitely want to do it now and then if only for the kids!
