In the second picture you can see the "u" shape between the two bones. That is why he had to have the surgery and the pin - to make sure that u shape stayed nice and tight.
They wanted to leave the pin in for a little longer. Thankfully now we have this bad boy on though!
Gives Mom a little peace of mind at least! He gets it off on April 19th if everything looks good.
